Astarte Bichons Frises and Barbets was established in 1972 in Phoenix, Arizona where I showed my dogs in the South West and California for over 38 years. We moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1996.

We are a small family show and breeding kennel, devoted to the betterment of the breed and striving to help new owners achieve success in the show ring, as well as with their family companions. Bichon Frise is an ancient breed of dogs. It derives from spaniels and poodles. The first information on this breed dates back to 13th century. The small size of these dogs allow it to be kept as pet and small game dog on ships. It was carried around the world by Spanish sailors. 3 centuries later, these dogs became the favorites of French Royal Court. Presently, these dogs are kept as companion dogs and show dogs. The registration of this breed with AKC took place in 1972. Bichon Frise is not a rare breed, that is why finding healthy and pure breed puppies should not be a problem. Still, if you are looking to get a pup and raise it as a show dog, you should not get it from a pet store. Only responsible and reputable breeders can offer you top quality puppies. Friendliness and amusement are the two main temperament characteristics of these dogs. They love company, love their family and develop deep affection for it. They get along well with other dogs or non canine pets. They are friendly to strangers and love to play with kids. These dogs are smart and highly trainable. They make perfect little pets for homes with young kids and elderly people. When well groomed, this little dog take sort of round shape. It has a small and compact body with a small round head. The muzzle is short and a bit square in shape. The ears are long and dropping. The tail goes up high over the back. The hair is thick, long and curly. It has two layers.
