Breed History Of The Cocker Spaniel

Spaniel dogs make a very ancient breed of dogs. It was known for centuries and the dogs were used for hunting. Cocker Spaniel breed was bred in England. All of the Cocker Spaniel  breeds go from Springing Spaniels. English Cocker Spaniel are larger in size, than American Cocker Spaniel dogs. English Cocker Spaniel dogs were bred in 14th century. Later on they were brought to USA, where American Cocker Spaniels were bred. 

Temperament Of The Cocker Spaniel

Cocker Spaniel dogs can be used both as working dogs or pets. They are friendly, brave, obedient and respectful. They are also smart and playful. They are very active and make great play mates for kids. As these are hunting dogs, they have to be socialized timely to become friends with other pets in your home.

Description Of The Cocker Spaniel

The muzzle shape is one of the most distinctive characteristics of American Cocker Spaniels. It has a very definite stop. The muzzle is square in shape and wide. Most Cocker Spaniel have dark color eyes. They are round in shape and sort of popping out a bit.
The hair varies in length, depending on where it growth. The back of American Cocker Spaniels is smooth and short haired, while on the sides, this dog longer and silky hair. It is of medium length. It may curl and feather on the legs, head and sides. These dogs vary in color, they go mixed colors, marble, solid colors, etc.

Dimensions OF The Cocker Spaniel

The English Cocker Spaniel: These dogs range in height from 15 to 17 inches and in weight from 26 to 34 pounds.
American Cocker Spaniel: Dogs of this breed usually reach 15 inches in height and the bitches grow to be 14 inches in height. The weight of Cocker Spaniel dog ranges between 15 and 30 pounds.
