Breed History Of The Labrador Retriever
In spite of the name Labrador Retriever did not come from Labrador. The origins of this breed come from Newfoundland. There Labs helped local fishermen to fish. They would jump into the icy water to catch any fish, escaping from the hook. They would also help to rescue people or to draw out nets.
From the Newfoundland Labrador Retriever dogs were brought to England. This event took place in 19th century. There they were crossed with Labradors, setters and other retrievers. This is how the modern day Labrador Retriever breed came to be. Such breeding enhanced Labrador Retriever’s hunting instincts and abilities.
Labrador Retrievers are widely known and very lovable. Labs are one of the most popular breed of dogs in USA. These dogs are more, than just pets. They are eager, willing and able to help people in many ways. Labrador Retrievers can work as police dogs, watch dogs, service dogs or lead dogs.
