Lhaso Apso dogs are small and hairy. They have large dark eyes. The ears are the most hairy parts of their body. Back legs of this dog are more thickly covered with hair, than the front legs. The tail is very hairy and set high, curling over the back of the dog. The coat is long and it has two layers. The hair is straight. The hair is long and goes all the way down to the floor, if not cut. Even though Lhaso Apso dogs are most popular in golden or cream colors, all colors are acceptable.

The weight of Lhaso Apso ranges between 13 and 15 pounds. The height ranges between 10 and 11 inches. Bitches are slightly smaller, than dogs.

Lhaso Apso is a very ancient and cult breed of dogs. It was bred in Tibet and local religion is an essential part of its history. The name of this breed comes from the name of the ancient Tibetan city, Lhaso. For a very long period of time, Lhaso Apso dogs were bred and kept only in Tibet. The breed came to Europe in early 20s of the last century and the first Lhaso Apso puppies and dogs arrived to USA only in 30s. Lhaso Apso dogs make great pets and companions. However, these dogs also require much grooming. It can be time consuming and pretty expensive.
