Temperament Of The Yorkshire Terrier
Even
though these dogs are small in size, they still can be pretty stubborn
and stout in heart. So, they need their owners to become good and strong
leaders to them. Otherwise, the may start bossing you and taking over
the house. If properly trained and set within boundaries, these dogs
become loyal and affectionate companions. It may sound surprising, but
Yorkies can also become great watch dogs. They guard their territory and
their people well and timely warn them of any danger.
These dogs
are smart and trainable, cheerful and curious. They can become angry and
aggressive with children, if no adult is left to watch their play.

The Yorkshire Terrier's
Breed History
There is no
clear information on the origin of this breed. However, it is believed,
the Yorkshire Terrier breed was bred by simple workers. These workers
have come to work at Scotland woolen mills. They have brought many dogs
of terrier breeds with them. They also had a common bane to deal with:
the rats. These pests inhabited their homes, storehouses, and mills.
They needed a dog, small enough to hunt them down fox holes and under
the floors. This is how Yorkshire Terrier was bred.
First dogs of this breed were considerably larger, than Yorkshire
Terriers of the present day. However, the smallest dogs were selected
and bred. So, eventually, Yorkshire Terrier dogs become smaller and
smaller. Today, they are no longer rat hunters. Yorkshire Terrier breed
has turned into fashion dogs. They are small enough to fit into lady’s
purse.
